Fraction P5 A001

In a class, 1/4 of the pupils and an additional 3 boys like badminton. 1/3 of the remaining class less 3 pupils like table tennis and the remaining 25 pupils in the class like football. How many pupils are there in the class?

From the information given, you must know that you have to work backwards. You should also learn to solve without having to waste time drawing model.

2 u --> 25 – 3 = 22
1 u --> 22 ÷ 2 = 11    Where possible go straight to 3 u
3 u --> 3 x 11 = 33     3 u --> 3 ÷ 2 x 22 = 33

3/4 --> 33 + 3 = 36                           
4/4 --> 4 ÷ 3 x 36 = 48 pupils

There are 48 pupils in the class.
