30. In the diagram below, ACEG and BDFH are squares. AB, CD, EF and GH are of the same length. The ratio of AB: BC is 2:1.
What fraction of the square ACEG is shaded?
3 x 3 = 9
4 x 1/2 x 1 x 2 = 4
9 - 4 = 5

ReplyDeleteIn the diagram below, ACEG and BDFH are squares. AB, CD, EF and GH are of the same length. The ratio of AB: BC is 2:1.
What fraction of the square ACEG is shaded?
Diagram given:
Start from point A at the left hand corner. Point A passes point B and end at point C (right hand corner). Point C goes down, passes point D and end at point E (right hand bottom). Point E passes point F and ends at point G (left hand bottom). Point G goes up, passes point H and ends at point A.
Ratio of length:
AB: BC -> 2:1
CD: DE -> 2:1
EF: FG -> 2:1
GH: HA -> 2:1
Join points H,B,D and F to form a shaded area (square BDFH)inside the square ACEG.
