Circle P6 2009 SA1 P2 RGS Q10

10. The diagram below shows a square, a semicircle and a right-angled isosceles triangle. Given that the radius of the circle is 4 cm, find the area of the shaded part. Take π as 3.14. [3]

4 x 4 = 16

1/4 x 3.14 x 4 x 4 = 12.56

16 – 12.56 = 3.44

4 x 2 = 8

1/2 x 8 x 8 = 32

32 + 3.44 = 35.44 cm2

The area of the shaded part is 35.44 cm2.
